The root chakra, Muladhara, is associated with the feeling of grounding, basic needs, survival, safety and security. Mula means “root” and Adhara, means “support” or “base.”
The sacral chakra, Svadhishthana, the ‘dwelling place of the self’ is associated with relationships, creativity, desires, sensuality and sexuality. Creative and procreative generativity is the task of this chakra.
The solar plexus chakra, Manipura, the ‘jewel city’ is associated with emotions, confidence, will power, decisions, personal opinions, purpose. This chakra governs the emotional body and it is your power and transformation centre.
The heart chakra, Anahata, meaning ‘unhurt’, ‘unstuck’ and ‘unbeaten’ symbolises awareness and manifestation of love towards oneself and others, affection, compassion, acceptance, gratitude and kindness. It is about the heart of our feelings. The heart chakra is about giving and receiving love.
The throat chakra, Vishuddha, is about communication, expressing your authentic voice and speaking your truth. This energetic abode is the intersection between our interior life and how we express or project our truth to the outside world. Vishuddha represents clarity of communication and integrity of speech.
The third eye chakra, Ajna, meaning ‘to know’ or ‘to perceive’, is about intuition, psychic abilities, the right to ‘see’ and self-realisation. The third eye is a mystical and esoteric concept referring to an invisible eye which provides perception beyond ordinary sight. The third eye is the extension of what the mind knowingly perceives.
The Crown Chakra, Sahasrara, meaning ‘a thousand petals’ is related to the connection with universal energy or Source, consciousness, universal understanding, and pure wisdom. It is where consciousness, soul (Atma and Purusha), universal knowledge and truth enter our body. From here, we can transcend the physical and connect with the divine.
